Wekly Mission Letter: From Missionaries Bulgaria Steve & Janelle Swann Greetings from Sophia, Bulgaria! I wish I could say that all is well, but as so many in the States, we have been hit with the Swine Flu. Janelle has had it Christopher and Jon have it and the girls and I are praying that we don't get it. Two percent of the population of Bulgaria has the Swine Flu. Inspite of all the sickness, God is still working and let me share what He has done the last few months. We started off August with Bro. Rick Grubbes coming and doing a Redeeming the Time Conference where he challenged our church from Ephesians 5:16 to use the time we have to serve God. The middle of August had Janelle's parents visitng us on their way home on furlough from Indonesia. We had a great time with them and the highlight of the visit that we took a five-hour trip south to the ancient Biblical city of Philippi. (I can't believe that I waited almost 13 years to visit there!) It was neat to be able to stand at the entrance of the jail that held Paul and Silas. At the end of September, we had some very special guest visit us in Bulgaria. Pastor Jim Stady and his wife Kim and daughter Jordan came over to be with us on the 10th Anniversarry of the Christian Baptist Church. We had a great service, with 6 first time visitors that had not been in a long time. One of the greatest things that has happened since my last prayer letter is that Zachary, one of the first men that I led to the Lord, has rededicated his life to the Lord. He had surrendered to preach, but he was also interested in money. He is a lawyer and his law practice was doing great, he was doing great - he drove a Mercedes and also had a BMW SUV. If it was expensive and the latest model, he wanted it! But God got a hold of his heart in August and he confessed his sin of greed and now wants to serve God again. Please keep him in your prayers so that he will keep his eyes on God. Richie & Missy Orrick October certainly "rflu" by! You read it right; the swine flu rooted its sickly snout into our family and Richie, Briton and Isabella all came down with its nasty virus. To say the least, it took its toll on our family, but we praise God for His strength that was made pefect in our weakness. This past month was filled with one MIssions Conference after another. We traveled from Texas, to Kansas, to New Mexico, to Kentucky and back to Kansas. As always, we are so humbled by the generosity of all the churches we visit. One church even held a "Christmas in October" and showered us with gifts. Durign these eventful weeks, we were blessed to see God at work in the hearts of people of these wonderful churches. At East Side Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, a teenage girl named Shawna went forward to surrender her life to serve God. Along with this glorious decision, we were able to witness another miraculous event. With the kids still sick, we decided to take them to Missy's family in West Virginia. Once Missy and the kids were unpacked Richie got in the RV to head to the church in Kentucky and it wouldn't start. To make a long story short, we were blessed to get the RV to a mechanic who fixed it labor free! While paying the man for the neccessary part, the conversation turned toward salvation and Randy Reed accepted Christ as his Savior! God is so amazing! Some other exciting news, on Oct 0th, we celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary and a wondeful family at our sending church sent us the $2900 we still need for our plane tickets to Wales! |
